In 2003, the Blaster and SQL Slammer worms surfaced. Blaster, like Code Red, took advantage of a buffer overflow vulnerability in Microsoft s operating system. Instead of attacking a web server, however, Blaster attacked a Distributed Component Object Model (DCOM) service that was running as part of the operating system.1 Microsoft deployed a patch for the vulnerability at http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com on July 16, 2003. While users could have downloaded the patch and inoculated their systems against an attack that took advantage of such a buffer overflow vulnerability, many unfortunately did not. Patching a system is inconvenient and gets in the way of the real work that users are interested in doing. On August 11, 2003, even though the DCOM vulnerability was announced and a patch was deployed, the Blaster worm was still able to take advantage of the vulnerability to launch its attack.

Listing 9.4 shows how moving the FormsAuthentication.SignOut() call from an action and into the action result abstracts that line of code and prevents it from executing from within the action method. This allows an action to return a LogoutActionResult, as in listing 9.5, and the testing of that method doesn t have to deal with calls to the FormsAuthentication class. The test can just assert that the LogoutActionResult was returned from the action. The test can also assert the values in the RedirectToRouteResult to make sure that the action correctly set up the redirect.

The current color used for drawing operations on a source is cairo_set_source_rgb(). The color will be used until a new color is set. A list of values provided by this enumeration follows: CAIRO_ANTIALIAS_DEFAULT: The default antialiasing algorithm will be used. CAIRO_ANTIALIAS_NONE: No antialiasing will occur; instead, an alpha mask will be used. CAIRO_ANTIALIAS_GRAY: Use only a single color for antialiasing. This color is not necessarily gray but is chosen based on the foreground and background colors. CAIRO_ANTIALIAS_SUBPIXEL: Use subpixel shading that is provided by LCD screens. This is simply a short introduction to Cairo drawing contexts that is provided to give you a taste of the topic. The next step is to create a model. The model doesn t have to be any particular type of object or inherit from any special class. It can be any class at all. Let s create a model class that represents the data that the user will be posting back to the server (listing 1.9).

The Blaster worm used an exploit that would cause the user s system to start shutting down. The dialog box shown in Figure 5-1 would pop up on a user s screen once their host was infected.
